Swagg Fest 2009
Swagg Fest 2009, a new annual event to feature a full day of activities and events for teens and young adults, will take place on Saturday, October 17th, at the First Tennessee Pavilion from 12-10pm. Through the partnership of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, Power 94, and entertainment groups “S.E.C. DJ’s” and “6 Figga Entertainment”, the goal of the Swagg Fest is to engage teens and young adults in worthwhile leisure pursuits and positive self development. The event will provide sports, performing, and creative opportunities for teens to highlight their personal style, self image, or “swagg” with family and friends in a safe nurturing environment. The “Swagg Fest” event is a part of a comprehensive citywide Youth Development Program that is working with teens in inner city neighborhoods.
SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES:
The “SwaggFest Block Party” – Noon to 7:00 p.m. will offer educational booths, vendors, clubs, and organizations that cater to teens, food, entertainment, health and wellness activities, peer group discussion forums, and programs from First Things First and 6 Figga Entertainment.
The “King of the Court” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – Noon to 3:00 p.m. will focus on the fitness and character building aspects of recreational sports.
The “Street Shine” Car and Bike Expo – 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will feature creative vehicles created by local teens and stress driver education and safety.
The Chattanooga Police Department will provide information for the prevention of DWI and other dangerous scenarios.
“Generation X Skate Games” – 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. will provide a similar focus for teens that use the City’s Chattown Skate Park offering fun competition activities for skaters, skate board riders, and bike riders.
“All I Need is One Mic and One Stage” Talent Showcase 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. will feature local ‘up and coming’ singers and dancers and host popular name entertainers “Rich Kids” and Travis Porter. Judges for the talent show are professionals in the entertainment field and include P. Brown from Street Talk Productions, Power 94, Ron White of RW Productions, as well as representatives from Def Jam and Universal Records. The second of two auditions for participation on this stage will be held at the Brainerd Recreation Center this Saturday, Oct. 10th from 11:00 .m. to 3:00 p.m.
The stage will also be utilized throughout the day for local DJs, motivational presentations and testimonials designed to promote ethical decision making, problem solving, and community responsibility.
