Stand: Action Lab Blitz
Stand, and its organizers at Create Here, host the city’s first ever “Action Lab Blitz” on Friday, July 16, from 1-5pm, and on Saturday, July 17, from 10am-2pm, at the Chauncey-Goode Auditorium.
Description:
Through a series of City Share luncheons and strategic meetings, local citizens, leaders, and advocates have identified key crime and safety issue in our area that need to be addressed in order to make significant change. Planning groups have formed around shared goals and visualized what it would look like to work together to reach them — demonstrating the key element for increasing public safety in Chattanooga: individual responsibility. This is the core idea behind Action Lab.
During the Action Lab Blitz, Chattanoogans from diverse backgrounds, passions, talents and expertise will come together for two days of creative problem-solving, community strategizing, and the establishment of citizen-led approaches to community issues.
Here’s how it works:
Citizens from across Chattanooga and representatives of local organizations will begin by describing their projects, new or old, through a series of Pecha Kucha-style presentations.
Immediately following these presentations, audience members and presenters will discuss what they’d like to tackle: from increased mentorship communication to sports leagues for at-risk youth or a comprehensive resource guide for women and girls in crisis. Topics will be chosen, and teams formed based on skill-set needs of each project.
Teams will then set-out to spend the Blitz’s two, four-hour sessions in intensive, facilitated conversations developing their idea into a workable plan. Through the ongoing City Share series, Action Lab teams will report progress of their efforts to a broad audience and promote opportunities for citizens to take individual responsibility through action.
Anyone with an idea about how to make Chattanooga communities safer is invited to bring their idea to the Action Lab table, discuss it further, get other people involved—and ultimately turn concern into action.
Please join us from 1-5 pm on July 16 and 10am -2 pm on July 17th at Tennessee Temple’s Chauncy Good Auditorium. For more information about how to get involved, email participate@createhere.org or visit http://createhere.org/
