The Common Shelf Community Bookcase Installation

LEADERSHIP CHATTANOOGA CLASS LAUNCHES COMMUNITY BOOKCASE

What: Please join us for the launch of a new community initiative, The Common Shelf – a community bookcase. The Common Shelf exists to enhance and encourage literacy, art, and community building in the City of Chattanooga. Born out of the 2010 Leadership Chattanooga program, the first Common Shelf community bookcase will be installed at Miller Plaza on Friday, April 16 at 11:00 AM.

The bookcase will work on the premise of “Take a book. Leave a book.” and will be open for all members of the community to participate. The case was donated by Collier Construction and decorated by the St. Peter’s Sprouts ‐ a club from St. Peter’s Episcopal School that is open to secondfifth graders. The club was developed as part of the “Go Healthy, Go Green” commitment that encompasses all aspects of the school and meets monthly to discuss topics such as: recycling, garden planning, art projects using natural objects, etc. In partnership with RiverCity Company, the bookcase will reside in the Waterhouse Pavillion and be accessible during the pavillion’s open hours.

At the launch, we encourage members of the community to bring a book to help stock the case. Complimentary refreshments will be provided by Blue Coast Burrito, Julie Darling Donuts, Bleacher Bums, and Meals by Mindy.
