Golly Whoppers is not like a “New York” style or traditional deli. They don’t specialize in shaved deli meats or imported cheeses. If you like BIG, sloppy, and DELICIOUS chicken or ham salad sandwiches drenched in mayo, American cheese, dill pickles, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw and sweet tea they can’t be beat! They are a tiny, (poorly decorated but clean) hole-in-the-wall mom and pop deli located in an older strip mall on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga. They are a local lunch favorite and have been for years so be prepared to wait in line! They have very limited seating that consists mostly small bistro tables. It seems that the majority of people at noon are either picking up large orders to take back to their offices or contractors of some kind. Golly Whoppers has daily specials including a loaded hot dog that is about as big as your arm! The prices aren’t cheap but very fair for the size of the sandwiches. My advice is… go a little early for lunch, be prepared to use lots of napkins and kick your diet to the curb!
