The Barking Legs Theater will be jumping on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. with music from the Lumbar Five and from Ogya in a benefit concert for Kofi Mawuko, who performs with both bands.

Lumbar Five plays soulful roots rock with a world beat, featuring songs by Kathy Veazey on VOCALS, piano, guitar and resonator, with John Rawlston on electric guitar, Nick Honerkamp on bass, Jo Whitaker on drums, and Kofi stirring the pot. More than 10 years as a band, the Lumbar Five has released two CDs and played around the region as well as all over Chattanooga. This is their first appearance at the Barking Legs Theater.

The OGYA band is a world music band founded by Kofi Mawuko. OGYA is comprised of experienced players who have performed with renowned musicians around the world. OGYA plays high energy music that will make you dance and dance and dance till you are out of breath and then they slow it down to the sultry rhythms of jazz and soul-soothing reggae rhythms.

Kofi Mawuko has been playing drums, singing, dancing and performing professionally since he was a young boy in Ghana, West Africa. For the past 8 years, he has called Chattanooga home, making his living teaching and performing. He and his wife, Rebekah, have brought African drumming and dance to a large number of children in local schools. Kofi performs locally and around the region with his band Ogya, and with the Lumbar Five.

Tickets are $10, available at www.barkinglegs.org or at he door. Proceeds will help Kofi make a journey to Ghana due to his father’s passing. Those wishing to make a donation can do so by ordering tickets online.
